First, some easy questions from Mom, then more a little later.
What is the weather like? About half the days I’ve been here so far have been cloudy, 1 has been rainy, and the other half have just been really nice. The hottest it’s gotten has been about 80 and the coldest was still not very cold, so overall I think the weather has been really nice so far.
How far away is the ocean? I should probably really now the answer to this question… I haven’t seen it yet but theoretically it should be pretty easy. I would have to go out of my way to see it and I will someday soon to take pictures of the huge Rainbow Bridge.
Are there birds? Yes, and not all pigeons. Crows are actually pretty common here and when I walk to the subway in the mornings I see little birds picking worms out of the small farms I walk by.
Is the air clear? I think it’s pretty good, yeah. I haven’t gotten to any extremely high points and seen a reallyyy long ways but I haven’t noticed anything bad about the air which I think is a good sign.
Do you get packed into subways? By “packed” if you mean have I ever been pushed by one of the people hired to literally just shove and pack people into the subways to make sure they get full during rush hour, then no, I haven’t had that. Buttt, if by packed you mean have I ever been in a subway and literally not been able to turn around because there are people smushing against you from all sides, then yes. The subways get absurdly crowded in the morning before work, after work, and during around 11-12 when everybody is rushing to try to make the last trains. Sitting down on the subways is a luxury I’ve only gotten to experience a few times. Typically you stand up and you have plenty of space. Occasionally you are most certainly crowded in like you’re in the front of a backstreet boys concert. For now it’s fun and whenever it happens we always laugh and joke about how it’s a great way to meet people, but after a while I could definitely see it getting old.
Do other Sophia students live in your same place? Yeah, maybe about half Sophia students half just regular citizens here.
What about Abe? Will he make friends with China? Wahhh?
Have you learned how to make Udon? Do you like it? I have not yet learned how to make it but I’ve eat those delicious slippery noodles every time I’ve been in the cafeteria. I’m afraid if I push one of the other buttons I can’t understand I’ll get something gross…
Have you been around the outside of the palace? Nope, not yet.
What do you eat for breakfast? Toast and jelly, or cereal. I’ve been eating a lotttttt of toast recently…
It is 4 am and you are sound asleep on the 4th floor near your balcony. Are the windows open? Do you need a blanket? I have a blanket, don’t worry. I don’t have any windows, only a huge glass sliding door that opens to the balcony. The screen was replaced mere minutes before I wrote this post so I haven’t had the door open at night for fear of insects.
