The festival at my school this week basically consisted of every single school club trying to get you to buy their food while you walk by their stand. There were some cool things though, such as the photography club’s exhibition they had set up. One of the guys there convinced me to come to their meeting again so I’m going to do just that on Tuesday.
There was also a Japanese speech contest which was a much bigger deal than you might expect a speech contest with 8 or so people entered. It even had little books printed up with short bios of the contestants and little pictures of them. I know, fancy right? Well, Kris was entered in it and did quite well but was bested by a Korean. A Korean! It was a farce! Okay, okay, I know that Korean people aren’t expected to be able to speak Japanese and their languages are extremely different but still it was pretty dumb. It’s like a Spanish person beating a Japanese person in a French language competition. Spain and France are so close there is way more opportunity to learn the language. Koreans are exposed to Eastern languages, and no doubt Japanese, significantly more than Americans. Oh well, you fought the good fight Kris, nice job!
After the speech contest a group of us headed to Ikebukuro for some classic Friday night eating and drinking. We all had to buy a sort of “set” meal where they bring us huge tray after tray of delicious and strange Japanese food. It was easily the most full I’ve been in Japan and reminded me of how fun the gluttony in America is.
When somebody suggests karaoke after an event where people are drinking and it’s only 10 o clock it’s hard to deny the person. We did that for a while (more Beatles, Christina!) and then caught the second to last train home to Azalea house where, as expected, we all ended up staying up too late hanging out. ‘Twas a great night, indeeeeed!
A couple more Fuji:
