Michael is here and things are great! If you want to read more about it pressure him to put more stuff on his website at http://www.michaelsulock.com/.
Thanks for the questions:
Are there actual “dessert buffets” which only sell sweets and pastries buffet style? Moe says they exist but all you can eat dessert isn’t actually as fantastic as you might think when you eat so much you want to hurl it immediately right back out.
Are the street vendor ramen stands awesome? I’ve never been, but I can attest to the fact that ramen restaurants are, in fact, amazing. I buy way more takoyaki on the streets (fried octopus balls of deliciousness).
When did you watch a sumo match? Was it cool? When Allan was here. Yeah, it was really cool but I will admit that after a few hours it tends to get mundane. It runs all day but we didn’t have the willpower to hold out that long and ended up leaving fairly early.
When did you eat that fish? Was it delicious? I ate the fish immediately after spearing it at the aquarium, much to all the 6 year olds dismay. It was delicious and nutritious.
Dude, I have just 3 words for you. Bonnaroo Next Year. Yesssssssssssss!
What will be Davy’s Next Big Adventure? That is a good questionnn, one which I’m often thinking about. Backpacking in China or India/Nepal? Biking across Japan? Something in South America? Who knows? When I get a chunk of free time I’ll have to look at the bank account and consider it all.
Really though instead of short term 6 week trips and such though I’m considering something more long term. A technical job that allows me to both use my computer science or physics major as well as travel or live in foreign countries would be ideal.
NCState will seem so tame, won’t it? I’m not particularly looking forward to NCState as it’s in Raleigh, NC which is not my favorite place in the world but I am looking forward to old friends, family, and studying physics and computer science again. One of the good things about NCState though is that it’s conducive to studying, reading, and other such activities. In Tokyo I feel like I should be enjoying this place as much as possible with the limited time I have and saving things you can do by yourself indoors for later.
What are you doing to keep physically fit, now that you aren’t hiking in SouthEast Asia, swinging on ziplines, grabbing the tail of a whale, etc.? Embarrassingly little other than just walking a lot.
Have you learned to cook Japanese? A bit, but not that much. I’m trying to think of a suitable way out of this one… Cooking for yourself here (depending on the meal) is generally not really cheaper than eating at a cheap restaurant (4-5 dollars) so I don’t do it particularly often these days. When I go back to America though I’m thinking I may miss Japanese food and learn to cook things as Japanese restaurants are few and far between.
Have you returned to Mt. Fuji after that first not totally successful event? No… And I doubt I will actually. It would a rough hike without much scenery or anything Not reaching the peak of Mt. Fuji doesn’t really bother me at this point. Maybe next time around in Japan?
Don’t worry Geoff I’ll get to your questions. But now, class time! Farewell!
