NCSU Study Abroad Photo Contest

When I got an e-mail saying there would be a photography competition for NCSU study abroad students I was pretty excited but at the same time dreading it in a way. I’ve got some absurd amount of pictures sitting around, maybe around 13,000 or so, and I knew it would take me forever to go through them. Most of them are just 5 pictures of the same thing taken with a different angle, zoom, or some other setting so I can compare later and see which I like better. I still do that but did it far more in the beginning when I was less sure of what I considered a good picture.

Anyways, I stayed up until 4 am on the day the contest was due and narrowed my pictures down to 6 like they requested, 2 for each category. These pictures are completely unedited (not even cropped) which also had a large influence on which pictures I could select. There are a decent amount of pictures I was considering alongside these that I’ll post next time. The main prize of the competition is a Eurail Flexipass which I believe costs around 600 dollars which, I must say, would be prettttttty fantastic if I won it.
Here they are separated by category:

Natural and Urban Landscapes:
Show us the sights- natural wonders and thrilling architecture- of your destinations.

People and Culture:
Share your photos that capture the essence of the people and culture of your host country and the places you visited.

The Pack Abroad:
Submit photos of the Pack (NCSU students and faculty) on their programs abroad.

Voting hasn’t started yet, but I’ll let people know when it does. Any NCSU student or faculty member can vote.

In other news, Happy Birthday Dad! Michael did a much better job of remembering it at the correct time and put a nice post at his website here. Sorry Dad, look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Reallllly ready for it to be the weekend. Physics has been putting the mental hurt hold on me and my brain needs a bit of time off. Not even much time for Guitar Hero 2 anymore these days, what has the world come to?

My free time available to study kanji has also shrunk pretty drastically which has slowed down my progress. I’m up to 1565 now. 500 more. Looking forward to being done with this so I can spend time learning vocabulary and grammar again.

During homework breaks in the effort to immerse myself more into Japanese I’ve been watching a lot of FLCL, Water Boys 2, Hanazakari no kimitachi e, Hana yori dango, and Kanon. This will probably not mean anything to 95% of people who read this but let it be known that it’s good stuffffff. Also pretty much listen to Japanese music exclusively these days. It’s, erm, not the best stuff in the world but I’ve found some stuff that I like. Japanese is a pretty big part of my life everyday now and I’ve been trying to immerse myself as much as is feasible, thanks to www.alljapaneseallthetime.com which I highly recommend.

Anyways, I’m doing pretty great these days. Things get better everyday as I get used to America/college again and figure out what I enjoy about life in Raleigh.
