Sooo, yesterday I met up with Claudia in Ikebukuro. We just started wandering down a street and before we had gone 10 minutes we saw a sign for a temple, how convenient! So we followed the signs to the temple and Claudia would ask people where it is sometimes, impressing me with her Japanese. The temple was realllly awesome and peaceful. Everything about it was really well done. There were tons of reallllly nice flowers that are pretty clearly freshly updated regularly. There was lots of incense burning all over the place as well. I took a lot of pictures, maybe someday I’ll be able to share them with you wonderful, beautiful people if my computer is cooperating!
Last night 12 of us met up in Shinjuku for a combined Karoeke and nomihodai (all you can drink). It was about 18 dollars for 2 hours and it was really pretty insane. People yelling, picking songs, singing, cheering, drinking, dancing, and taking pictures. There was one guy who was a little out of control drunk kind of spoiling it for the rest of us but I could see how it would be really amazing without something like that. Afterwards some of us went to a bar for a while and then to one of the Japanese student’s apartment. Don’t ask me why but in Tokyo the subways stop running at midnight and start back again at 4:30. This means that if you stay up past 12 there’s really no way you’re getting back home unless you pay way too much for a taxi. Well, I decided I would take that risk on my first night out in Tokyo and stay up all night. My heart was in it but my body wasn’t agreeing with me and at about 2:30 I decided unconciousness on Hiro’s bed was a much better plan than fighting the sleepiness and took a nap until 5 am when I took the long, extremely tired subway ride and walk back to my dorm. I ended up going to sleep at around 6:30 am.
Anyways, here I am feeling pretty good right now and I think I’m going to Harujuku today with some others to buy myself a new messenger bag. Just in case you were thinking it was a good idea I would highly recommend not buying a 13 dollar bag from an outlet store. I’ve been using it for a week and already the zippers don’t work and the strap is really close to being completely broken. Huzzah!
