Halloween is not particularly popular in Japan… which is why we got a lottt of stares walking around Tokyo last night.
We started the day off by going to a small halloween party of Sophia university students at a place near our school from 4-7 which was fun. Sadly, a few of us (me included) were extremely lacking in the costume department at this time so afterwards a group of us went to Shinjuku to see if we could find something. Adam already knew what he had in mind.
Classic ghost: sheet with holes for eyes cut out. It was beautiful. He would run up to random Japanese girls and hold his arms up under the sheet and go “woooooOOOOOooooooOOOOOOoooo” and they would scream and/or laugh.
For me Halloween is the 1 day out of the year that I can dress up like an idiot and it’s socially acceptable. Naturally I always try to take full advantage of such an opportunity. Me & Christina with Adam haunting our picture in the background.
Once we were happy with our costumes we headed over to Club Vanilla in Roppongi. Seeing approximately 0 people dressed up in costumes on the way there was a bit discouraging but at the club there were actually a significant amount of people participating. I was fairly worried that this place would be just as lame as my first club experience at Gas Panic where we ended up leaving 3 seconds after entering but it actually turned out to be a really great night there. We met up with more friends from Sophia university and danced around for a few hours. Adam’s ghost costume was perfect for dancing as he could just put his hands up underneath it and pretty much do whatever he wanted and it looked awesome.
We left the club around 2 and wandered around Roppongi a bit until we found a good Karaoke place where we stayed for the next 2 hours until the trains started running again.
This was during the singing of “My heart will go on”
After the Karaoke we returned home for a fantastic McDonalds breakfast and sleep. Here’s Adam running around as we wait for the subway on the way home at 7 am.
Hope everybody had a great halloween, I’d love to see pictures of your costumes
