Computer troubles and registration

Sooo, I didn’t post yesterday because my yesterday was so incredibly uneventful.  I spent all of it sitting around the lounge here at Azalea House (where I live) trying to fix my computer.  Once this proved useless I spent the rest of my day attempting to learn some Japanese.  Interesting, no?

Today was more eventful and productive.  I turned in my registration sheet for classes this morning at Sophia.  Highlights include Introductory Japanese, Anthropology 309 - Approaches to Japanese Society, Art 230 - Japanese Art History, and Literature something something - Shakespeare, Then and Now.  My classes are really conveniently timed, and all sound great, so hopefully this schedule will work out.

After registration and conquering more slippery noodles a group of us foreign exchange students set out to get bank accounts.  After much very poorly spoken Japanese and English and extremely large amounts of confusion the first place we tried turned us down because we didn’t have this Alien Registration card that is impossible for us to get for a couple weeks.  We gave up and walked about 5 doors down to another bank and got one without any problems.  Apparently this is pretty common getting bank accounts and cell phones.  Some people are really adament that you have the card but others just don’t care.

After we got bank accounts we all sat around for way too long at Sophia until we decided to go over to Shinjuku and help get a cell phone for somebody.  We ended up eating at an American pizza place because we got desperate for a cheap place to eat.

Although we didn’t do anything too amazing, today was a really great day just because of the people I hung out with.  One’s name is Ramiro.  He’s from Argentina majoring in International Studies and speaks Portuguese, Spanish, French, Finnish, and English all surprisingly well and is learning Japanese.  You’d guess that he’s lived in America for a while he speaks English so well but he’s never actually been.  Also a guy from Mexico came along, although I don’t remember his name.  He also speaks English surprisingly well.  It’s really great listening to Claudia, Ramiro, and *insert name of Mexican guy here* speak Spanish to each other because for each of them it’s their native language but they all speak it slightly different because they each come from different continents.  They’re all incredibly nice and fun though, and I think I’ll definitely be spending some time with them this year.  In fact, on Friday I believe we’re going to a club (maybe Salsa dancing? although not one of us knows how?)  and Saturday is more Karaoke!  Tomorrow I’m meeting Moe and we’re going to Shibuya where I’ll hopefully find a decently priced messanger bag.  Afterwards there’s another sort of mingling party with Japanese students and foreign exchange students hosted by a club on campus which should be gooood.

All in all it’s not difficult staying incredibly busy and I’m sure I’ll only be busier once school starts.  Also, I’m downloading a copy of Windows XP from Geoff that will hopefully allow my computer to work and pictures to be shared.  Thanks Geoff, you rock!
