Today is the second day of class, which means I’ve gotten a chance to experience every class I’m in at least once. I was lucky enough to actually get into all the classes I signed up for, which I can’t say the same for most people I know.
My Japanese class is pretty dang boring, but I like the chance to speak it in a more formal setting. I don’t really learn much yet. I learned a lot more when Moe sat down with me today and let me ask her a lot of questions and showed me how to say some common phrases. I should seriously be paying her, she’s incredibly helpful! Thanks Moe!!
Approaches to Japanese Society seems like a real, actual, full fledged class. I’m not really sure if that’s good or not… The American teacher seems incredibly knowledgeable and the class actually seems fairly difficult. This is in stark contrast to my Japanese Art History class that just seems laughably easy. It’s taught by a sweet old Japanese lady who doesn’t speak english so well and is incrediblllllly boring. Already on the first class a girl sitting in front of me had her head down and pretty much slept the whole time. And as for the Shakespeare class… I’m starting to rethink this one. There were exactly 7 people (including me) in the class, all of which are 3rd or 4th level English majors or something similar. We have to read Hamlet and the Tempest and for our final exam we have to turn in a play script parodying Shakespeare.
Had a most excellent dinner tonight with a pretty large group of Japanese. It was Korean barbeque that has a little grill in the middle of the table that you throw your raw meat on and flip it around with your chop sticks. Nom nom nom!
Anddd, as always (or… most of the time… hopefully), a couple pictures:
I look funny in this picture… but taken like a pro, Claudia!
Anddd, completely irrelevant, but these are some flowers from the Japanese temple Claudia and I visited in Ikebukuro last week.
