Yesterday Christina and I went to Odaiba to check out the Christmas illumations they had set up all around the place. We both came to the conclusion that Odaiba will, from here on, be referred to as a Moon Base as that’s basically exactly what it feels like when you’re on it. This time of year the moon base has lots of really big, tacky Christmas trees that Japanese people walk up to and take their picture beside it with their cell phone, say “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” and move on. Most of the trees were pretty silly but there were some other really nice lights set up, especially in Venus Fort, the roman-themed shopping mall where the ceiling changes color and picture based on the weather.
For Japanese people Odaiba is a reallllllllly popular date spot. I mean literally basically everybody there is a couple. Guy’s take their girlfriends there to go shopping, ride the ferris wheel, watch the sunset, and gaze out at rainbow bridge. This was really funny to us as Japanese people just assumed we were dating and were realllly in shock when I didn’t pay for her ferris wheel ticket. When we were waiting for the ferris wheel they took our picture, which Christina wasn’t too excited about and didn’t want to do, but I pulled her into it and put my arm around her and said “girlfrienddddddd” and “love youuuuu” in Japanese loudly and stupidly while she was yelling about how annoyed she is and just generally being extremely disobediant and making the Japanese people feel uncomfortable. We both laughed about it a lot afterwards and it made a really funny picture but we didn’t want to shell out the 8 dollars for it.
I forgot my camera, which was pretty stupid. I really need to go back there and take more pictures sometime. When I look back at the ones I took last time I really didn’t capture any aspect of the hugeness of the moon base, I pretty much only took pictures of the things in it. Here is the link to my older Odaiba posts though if you’re curious. Yesterday was amazing, as expected, Odaiba is now easily one of my favorite places in Tokyo.
Andddd, pictures from last week!
