School started again today, which meant I had to go to 3 classes (one of which was canceled). Not the most exciting thing in the world but I was extremely happy to find out that I won’t have to make up the test I missed in my Japanese Art History class when I came back to America early. She’s just taking the average of the other 2 tests in class. Rockkkkkkk!
Yesterday was the a big “coming of age” type celebration for everybody that turns 20 this year in Japan so some of us went to Meiji Shrine in Harajuku to see the elaborate suits and kimonos that guys and girls were wearing. Although I went with Christina, Adam, and Kris I wandered off by myself and had a couple interactions with Japanese folk. One random old Japanese man randomly came up and asked me where I was from. When I answered America he launched into a fairly obviously rehearsed speech about bringing peace to the world and how he was praying for America. It was nice and I told him I wish the same thing on the world and America, although I’m fairly certain from his awkward laughter that he couldn’t understand me.
Also while I was standing around taking pictures of things this guy got in my camera’s field of vision, pointed at his huge expensive camera, smiled and laughed in a “is it okay if I take your picture” kind of way. I laughed, so he took my picture, then I immediately raised my camera up afterwards and took his while he was making a “oh my! you want to take my picture too?” kind of face. I decided his picture would be okay for the black and white portrait challenge at dpchallenge.com so I spent some time working on it.
