I was greeted this morning right before I was leaving to go to Akihabara by the site of my lost luggage, woo! So all my stuff is in order and I have no excuse for being stinky now.
I really thought I would have trouble on the subway trying to find my way to Akihabara even though I had a little map that Moe drew me. I really didn’t think I would get lost on the walk TO the subway station, but yes, that is definitely what happened. About 10 minutes into the walk to the station I realized that I wasn’t recognizing things anymore. After wandering around for a while I stopped being stubborn and asked someone. The lady was extremely helpful and nice, even though my Japanese is horrendous, and walked me to the station because she was going the same way. I ended up making it to Akihabara at the right time since I left 45 minutes early fully expecting myself to get lost.
In “electric town” I met up with 2 exchange students from Barcelona whom I met the previous day at the mingling event thingy and their Japanese friend. We walked around for about 30 second before we came to a place where Jordi, one of the exchange students, could get a cell phone. I knew that the cell phones in Japan were supposed to be nicer than the ones in America but it’s pretty silly just how much nicer they actually are. Jordi’s phone was free with a $35 a month plan. It’s got a huge high resolution LCD screen that flips down horizontally to watch free streaming television that is downloaded wirelessly onto his phone. It also takes high resolution pictures and video and can send them wirelessly to other phones that are nearby. It also compliments him, cuddles with him, buys him dinner, and tucks him in at night.
We spent the rest of the day gawking at his phone. But we also walked around the huge lines of electronic shops, the 6 story arcades, the rows upon rows of fresh food and cheap clothing stores in Ueno. All of them have tons of huge signs with Japanese Kanji postered up everywhere. There are tons and tons of store employees yelling, beckoning people to come and buy things. It’s ridiculously hectic and interesting.
My computer is having a lottttt of issues with pictures recently. I really hope I can get this thing to work soon. I can look at pictures for approximately 4 seconds before my computer flips out and I have to restart it.
Tomorrow Moe is helping me get my alien registration card that you need to get a bank account and a cell phone. Then she’s going to help me get a cell phone! Yeahhh! Once again Moe is my savior, thanks a million times again!
But I am ridiculously tired and exhausted from walking around today and trying to get this beast of a computer to work. Tomorrow is another big day in a huge city. Hopefully I’ll be able to get more pictures online soon. Night night for me, but I hope everybody has a great day while I sleep!
