This semester looks realllly promising. Last semester when I couldn’t speak any Japanese I couldn’t join any clubs except for the international student one but this semester I joined the Frisbee club and have been spending a decent amount of time with them. Playing frisbee again is really, really refreshing especially since I haven’t gotten any exercise except walking since coming to Tokyo. The thought that I’ve only got 3 and a half more months in Japan struck me hard when I came back from Southeast Asia and I’ve been studying Japanese recently in the hopes of being decent at it when I leave. Tomorrow I meet with the “adventure” club here about going white water rafting during the weekend. Things are great!
Here’s a picture of a tribeswoman from Northwestern Thailand. She’s had the rings on her neck since she was 7 and added one every few years until she reached her current neck length. The rings can be removed without harming her but by this point she’s so used to them she leaves them on all the time.
